We recognize that we can learn to be better. It is through a process of reflection on, and cultivation of, principles that we can become better every day. It’s recognizing, in humility, that we all make mistakes and have room to grow. And it’s in day-by-day reckoning with our own strength that fuels ambition.
United conservatism
Conservatives in Alberta are independent thinkers who value autonomy. This creates spirited and open debate — exactly what is needed for a prosperous and safe society. However, sometimes, as conservatives, we forget that not all people are comfortable talking about politics and often get misled by special interests or majority groupthink. In the history of Alberta, we have realized that unity is a core principle of conservatism to ensure that our liberty is protected.
Standing by your values and principles can sometimes be isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. Beyond ensuring our personal safety and bodily autonomy, we know that speaking truth is something we all benefit from. And it is with our gift of discernment that we learn from each other.
This helps to protect us from abuses of power and tyranny — not only advocating for ourselves but for those who don’t always have a voice, like speaking up and protecting children.
Being self-assured conservatives, we sometimes feel like the systems of our society are flawed — and they are — but it’s through our shared values of faith, family, freedoms, fiscal accountability, and charity that we find unity.

Ultimately, we understand that we all have our own unique experiences and that we must be free to learn and grow in the way we best know how — for ourselves, with our families and friends — and also through free enterprise, with currency as a service, not as a means of control.

Understanding Levels of Organization A robust civil society is built upon free and healthy individuals. We are designed to act not only in our own best interests but also in the interests of those around us, because intelligence resides within the person, not the collective. Each of us experiences the world subjectively, and it is through that individuality that creativity and responsibility arise. Social capital is the true currency of strong and prosperous families. It depends on reciprocity, quality time together, and voluntary association. Innovations such as currency as a service empower individuals and communities to settle disputes peacefully, build trust, and access goods and services across the world — not through coercion, but through cooperation and mutual respect.

Affirm the individual, in the context of their family, as the fundamental building block of society — the source of safety, growth, continuity, and multiplication. It is through the family that we pass on values and beliefs, nurture the next generation, and preserve community. Families must therefore be protected from unwarranted intrusion by government.

Government has no inherent authority. Its authority exists on behalf of the people, and we choose the services and functions our government provides — including maintaining low levels of taxation to help generate economic growth while allowing Albertans to enjoy the fruits of their own labour.

Pessimism often leads us to believe that we are of this world — that our circumstances define us and that our control ends where uncertainty begins. When we can’t see the future or understand what’s to come, we may feel powerless, as though our choices no longer matter. Yet it is precisely in those moments that grace and faith restore our agency. Grace reminds us that we are more than our failures or fears; faith reminds us that there is purpose beyond what we can see. Together, they lift us from a state of resignation to one of renewal — helping us act with courage, compassion, and conviction, even when the path ahead is unclear.
